burlap

ever since i staple gunned it to my walls and ceiling in a college dorm room i have been obsessed with burlap.  i recently made a shower curtain out of it, an hour long, very satisfing project!
i can't wait to get these burlap shoes from tom's shoes.  if you haven't heard of this company yet check it out!

geoff mcfetridge

the work of designer geoff mcfetridge is so fun!  i don't have a place for his wallpaper, so at the moment i will have to settle for one of the creature off my back figures...

i was so happy to see that tina barney is shooting an ad campaign for theory.  she really is one of my favorites!

the house book

i got my '74 edition of terence conran's the house book over the weekend and it does not disappoint!  not only is it so so fun to look at, but it is a great resource...

socal @ lacma

i am so excited to go to the socal: southern california art of the 1960s & 70s exhibit at lacma this weekend!
i have been so buying into the myth of california recently, loving all the arts and crafts from that era...

The myth of California—and particularly of southern California—looms large in the modern psyche.  Portrayed in the early years of the twentieth century as the land of gold and sunshine, California by the mid-twentieth century was understood in the popular imagination in more nuanced terms. Images of both the utopian and the dystopic took shape in the vision of artists working in the 1960s and 70s in southern California, emerging on the one hand in the sleek, elegant, at times even transcendental works of the so-called "light and space" and "finish fetish" artists; and on the other hand in the gritty, even tawdry imagery and materials of assemblage and California pop.

screened room

i have not been able to get this image (vogue, july 2007) of emma jane pilkington's screened room out of my head!  i want it real bad.  i love the supports as shelves, the long table...i was also thinking it would be good to do with fiberglass instead of screen.  i seem to be more obsessed with the secondary structures than an actual house...yurt, teepee, wee house, i want them all!!!!  house?  seems like a lot of work.

box a fire

i love fires, and i love friends, friends that make really good fire pits?  so cool!  i speak from many hours of experience sitting around a box a fire', so i can tell you there is nothing nicer. 
now that summer is winding down it is time to start getting excited for fall.  buy a pit and tell your friends!

more national geographics

i have documented my love of national geographics before, but i think this image really shows what they add to a room and how graphic they can be.  i live in fear that my ebay guy will run out...it started as prop for a set and i have now ordered for myself, friends and several clients...

book covers

these downloadable images of old books on the kate spade website are so cool!  i have always had a soft spot for old salinger covers...

the website has templates and instructions for making "covers for your covers", but i am going to download the top image for my computer's wallpaper!

farron house

we stayed the most amazing manor house in county cork last september, farron house.  there is a bar setup in the billard room where you can make a gin and tonic and leave the payment in a can.  the entire house is decorated with such a nice eye, the four bedrooms are each so beautiful, the bathrooms are huge...and the rugs throughout are fantastic!

the medival castle and abbey of kilcrea is just across the way and is so lovely...

 

euthymol toothpaste

i know that marvis is the designer toothpaste of choice, but i prefer euthymol.  so spicy!

kikoys

kikoys definitely have a place on my list of favorite things.  i use them all the time, scarf...tablecloth...makeshift curtains...  i always get mine at lost & found (no website, 323.856.5872)
but i am so psyched to have found these floor pillows made of kikoys.  at 36" they are giant, i want to stack 2!  and the dog in the photo looks just like mine, lola!

not only does the kikoy company also make great beach towels and variations, they also founded the kikoy women's group, an organization that pays fair wages for the knotting of kikoys and allows women to work from home.  cool, huh?

wendell castle

wendell castle is a name i remember from my childhood b/c my godfather showed his work at his gallery in the 80's.  it wasn't until recently that i saw castle's fiberglass work from the 60's.

aren't these lamps are amazing?

the most well know of his fiberglass stuff is the molar collection, chairs and loveseats shaped like teeth!  (there is a molar chair up on ebay right now!)  his website has some great old photos of the collection in use...

pattern book

at the suggestion of book by its cover i recently bought patterns in design and i am especially drawn to these images of patterns in unexpected places.

coolest rope lamp ever!

i can not get this lamp/sculpture out of my head.  i saw it at orange last week and i can't stop thinking about it.  i even pinned a photo above my desk.  it kind of sounds like i have a crush on it...

i am a big fan of rope and the construction is so simple.  love love love it!

west elm sconces

these sconces from west elm are just the kind of lights that i am into at the moment, at a fraction of the price!  the silver version and the standing light are on sale...

tepees!!!!

i was so psyched to see yesterday's article in the nytimes about tepees!  not only are they the coolest thing around but they are pretty affordable.  when i finally buy a house i think a $2000 guest house is going to sound pretty good...and then you can only have overnight guests that are cool enough to want to sleep in it!
coincidentally someone at work was ordering a gift from nomadic tipi earlier this week...tepees must be floating around the collective unconscious!  the image below reminds me of one of my other favorite guest houses to be...so cozy!

the buffalo hide tepee below is pretty awesome, and it is definitely worth checking out the rest of the site!

matteo

earlier this week i went downtown to the matteo showroom to see their complete line of crazy good bedding.  as a textile junkie i was knocked out!  the detailing is exquisite without being too frilly, and the hand of the fabrics is amazing...  i love linen sheets and these are the best i've seen.
the whites are great, and the natural fabrics take the gray dye so well...look at the hand stitching!

i think this is the coolest idea.  what a great way to get plants on a wall w/out using a vine...
