i love design, but sometimes working in interior design can be trying... which is why friday evening saw me leaving the rite aid with as much beer as i could carry and a newsweek on healing the world.
i think this photograph is so beautiful, i love wax prints.
i am really trying to think of a design service project, any thoughts?

I couldn't agree with you more, it's nice to stop in and hear someone else in the same boat as me. I will be thinking about some service project ideas and get back to you. Great post!

I've been getting email from a friend working in the peace corps in Kenya. I know you've written about Africa in your posts. In her day to day descriptions, the issue of water containment, let alone wells seems to be overwhelming. The schools and many homes don't have even catch basins to hold rainwater. This seems to be one of many common problems with huge implications there. Couldn't we think of or work on a recycle and recast program to design catchments(rubber/plastic? foldable/mailable/portable/cheap/colorful/cool...?).

Metropolis Next Generation 2008 call for entries. Metropolis brings its Next Generation Design Competition back for '08, asking you to "make waves." The theme for the next Next Gen is (drumroll) water.
Water is everywhere--in nature, industry, home, our bodies, products, interiors, buildings, landscapes, systems (just to name a few).
With up to one third of the global population living without reliable access to clean water, we need better design solutions that account for potable water, gray water, black water--its uses, re-uses, controls, management, efficiency, and conservation.
We call on your innovative design solutions at all scales and sizes--products, interiors, buildings, landscapes, communication systems, or anything else you've dreamed up--for handling this most precious and most threatened natural resource. The time for new thinking on water is now.
Metropolis Next Generation 2008 Design Competiton : Make Waves, Focus on Water
Deadline : January 4, 2008 ($75 entry fee)
$10,000 grand prize
